Fractal Design Painter 3.0 is a must have. I would suggest you wait a bit
for any other programs. Last fall I attended an Autodesk seminar in which
they showed Animation Studio, their upgrade of Animator Pro. (Animator Pro, if
you aren't familiar, is their cumbersom paint and 2D animation package.)
Animation Studio was still in the early beta stages, but it looked great.
Photoshop type of interface. Real time 24-bit sprites. Film strip controls.
Audio features. In short, it was DPaint on super steroids, and then some. Last
time I spoke with AutoDesk, they were shooting for a summer (June or July)
release. (Hhmmm, about the same time that the PVR card is scheduled for
release, and also the same time that SoftImage for windows is rumored to be
ready. It could be a very juicy summer indeed!)
